National Leprosy Elimination Programme(NLEP)

St.John’s Health Services has been taking care of the Leprosy patients for the past 60 years. It is recognised as a nodal agency of National Leprosy Elimination Program for the State and Central Government of India. The organization has been doing Leprosy Control Programme through medical care and rehabilitation in all over the District of Trivandrum.

From the year 1976, with the collaboration of the Government of India and Damien Foundation of India Trust, it has been providing treatment to more than 15,000 Leprosy patients, of whom 9478 patients have been cured. Thus we have brought down the prevalence rate of the disease to below 0.3 percent of the population. Along with this, the organization has also achieved a great deal in reducing the stigma and discrimination of the public towards Leprosy patients.
